On May 09, 2013, the US Patent & Trademark Office published a patent application from Samsung revealing a possible future flexible HDTV display that consumers will be able to bend to a better viewing angle by simply using their remote controller. The range of flexibility will go far beyond that of a tradition HDTV on a stand.
The US Patent & Trademark Office recently published two patent applications from Samsung covering flexible displays and ebooks. Samsung's main patent filing generally relates to a flexible display device which is adapted to detect bending information, such as folding or bending of the flexible display device, and to output an image corrected on the basis of the bending information. Samsung's second patent filing generally relates to making page turning in future eBooks more realistic.
Last week the US Patent & Trademark Office published a Samsung patent application revealing a new smartphone protective case with a speaker sound amplification path in single and dual speaker configurations. While the protective case won't provide you with the ability to present a light show or shoot poison darts, the simple sound system will provide Galaxy smartphone users with superior sound while watching HD movies and/or listening to their favorite tunes.
The US Patent and Trademark Office officially published a series of Samsung's newly granted design patents today. The US Patent & Trademark Office recently published a Samsung patent application that reveals their intentions of joining the Ultrabook Convertible market that will begin rolling out in the second half of this year. The Ultrabook will generally be presented to the public in three design form factors including a swivel, tilt or slide-out design that'll basically allow the notebook's display to act as an independent touchscreen tablet. Samsung's patent filing confirms that they've chosen a "slide-out" form factor as one of their potential designs. In this particular patent filing, Samsung focuses in on a slide and tilt mechanism of their convertible notebook as illustrated in the four patent figures below.
In November 2012 Patent Bolt published a Samsung patent application report regarding "Air-Gesturing.". Air Gesturing for handheld devices could be an option for specific Android applications and the idea behind this feature is to control the User Interface without having to actually touch the display. During last night's boring Samsung Galaxy S4 event, they introduced this feature, fulfilling their patent which hints of this feature eventually sliding over to future Samsung Smart Televisions. Additionally, Samsung introduced their "Smart Scroll" smartphone feature last night which fulfilled one of their latest trademarks filings.
On March 14, 2013, the US Patent & Trademark Office published a patent application from Samsung that reveals a pico projector built into a smartphone. More specifically, the patent covers an apparatus and method for projector navigation based on movement of a handheld projector. Whether this particular patent application supports the Galaxy Beam smartphone that debuted a year ago or the next generation of such is unknown at this time. However, the live navigation feature of this pico-projector would strongly suggest that it is indeed a next generation feature.
On March sixth we reported that Samsung was likely to introduce a new Galaxy S4 feature involving an advanced eye-tracking feature for automatic scrolling based on both a Telegraph report and a Samsung trademark filing made in February. Today, Patent Bolt has discovered that the 3D feature is likely to be 3D movie and still camera debuting with the Galaxy S4. The US Patent and Trademark Office have published a trademark filing that was made by Samsung last week that shows us the logo for such a feature.
The US Patent & Trademark Office recently published a patent application from Samsung that reveals that reveals their work on what the industry refers to as a Pico-Projector. Samsung states that their invention relates generally to a projector, and more particularly to a micro-projector including a light source, such as a Light Emitting Diode (LED) and a lamp, an illumination optical system, and a projection optical system. Today, trying to integrate a pico-projector into a smartphone is a challenge because of the bulky projection system. Samsung believes that they've found a way around that problem.
