Google Enters with Camera System for Contact Lens

Samsung is not the only company out there that’s making inroads into new and exciting territory. In its bid for recognition and a place in the inventing world, Google has decided to embark on its usual solo pioneering journey to make its mark. For this, it has found a niche in the human contact lens department.

Patent Application

We all know what contact lens are and the impact they have on a person’s ability to see without wearing those standard or bi-focal glasses. Their circular shape fits perfectly onto the concave part of the cornea and covers the whole iris/pupil area. This placement assists persons with viewing problem s in the same way that eye glasses do but in a more clandestine fashion. The lens literally floats on a base of watery tears and has the effect of correcting vision issues that people have.

The novelty and the buzz that Google has introduced into the equation is the idea of adding a system that involves cameras inserted into the folds of the plastic lens. This is what has jolted inventors in the device market because up to now no company has ever conjured up the idea. This means of course that if Google goes ahead and succeeds the patent and trade mark goes to its corner.

But has it invented the micro cameras? It certainly has and from all reports the initiative will become a common item for wearing in the future. The two main cameras (#210) are placed towards the bottom of the contact lens on both eyes and are connected to a series of control circuits (#290) and sensors (#215) that work in unison with the user’s blinking eyes and change of viewing focus.

This is truly a remarkable move into a new field of endeavour but it doesn’t end there. The camera system works on the uncanny ability of capturing images and passes on the information through the system  from other lesser cameras embedded into the system and which are then used to depict in natural colour forms what the user is actually seeing. When the user changes viewing direction, the camera automatically picks up the new images taken and automatically displays them as needed.

Various Components

More interest and glamour to the invention is added with the captured data processed in such a way so it can deliver the exact objects with their colours, movements, forms and faces or other info info to the camera and viewed as they really are. All the more interesting is that these processes will not impede the normal function of the pupils when worn by a user.

What may even be more important is the impact the new invention will have on the lives of the blind who wear the device. The processing component #255 and the analysis part of the contact lens #265 will respectively process and analyse the raw data captured by the camera and provide details of a specific site and trigger other required functions such as the noticing of vehicle at an intersection or a smartphone warning that a particular intersection is not safe to cross.

The path that leads to the invention of sophisticated gadgets for the benefit of society is a long and arduous one. But with Google and other enterprising companies travelling along it, it’s most likely that new and beneficial products will continue to stream onto market and shelves.
