Today, the US Patent and Trademark Office granted new design patents for Google, Samsung and HP. Google has won a new Glass related design; Samsung has won a design patent for a display stand; and HP has won one for a new headset design.
A Word about Design Patents
Unlike "patent applications," design patents published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office don't reveal pertinent information about a particular design. We can look at the design and appreciate it for what it projects, but we'll never discover which materials may be used to construct the design. We'll never know what unique internal components may be hidden within the device or learn about any unique features that we could look forward to. All we get is the simple visual of what could be coming down the pipeline.
Google Wins New Glass Design Patent
We first revealed this new Google Glass design noted below in a report last month titled "New Google Glass Patent Illustrates Customization Options." Today Google was granted a design patent for this under number D688,727.
Samsung Wins Design Patent for a new Display Stand
Although Samsung isn't a big PC player, this new design win for a display stand peripheral is an interesting design with a lot of convenient ports on the right side and rear of the unit.
HP Wins Design Patent for New Headset
Today HP is big in promoting the Beats by Dr. Dre headphones on their website. That may change in the future, as a new HP design patent illustrates that they have a new design of their own on record.
The new design appears to include a remote device attached to the headphone cord. This is likely to control volume and change music tracks. The design also appears to suggest that the headset ear plates are interchangeable so as to provide users with their choice of colors.
Considering that these are design patents, the timing of any potential products to market is unknown at this time.
