This week the US Patent and Trademark Office published a newly granted design patent of Samsung's for a "cellular phone." The design appears to be a new simpler design. With Samsung debuting new products tomorrow, it may be worth a peek.
The newly granted smartphone design has no physical buttons on the right side as noted in the first patent figure below. The face of the smartphone shows no buttons at the bottom of the bezel until the phone is turned on. In addition, the phone doesn't present a camera flash as other designs have in the past and a new symbol is noted in the first position of the bottom bezel menu.
Samsung's design patent D684,554 was filed in May 2012 in the US and earlier in Korea. The US Patent Office made it public yesterday.
