I have had two Sony Readers. The hardware of both were more advanced than the Kindle of the time. The problem was the software. Buggy. Difficult to use. Updates you are desperate for because of the bugs throw away all your books so that you you have to reload them and the third party books are just lost. So bad that a third party software for the Reader is making a go of it. So who cares how clever their hardware is?
