Yesterday the US Patent and Trademark Office published a series of newly granted design patents for Microsoft. The designs cover their new Surface Tablet with kickstand along with various UI elements that extend through to the Windows 8 user interface for phones. In total Microsoft gained seventeen design patents.
Microsoft Granted a Series of Design Patents Related to the Surface Tablet
Microsoft has been granted a series of design patents related to their new Surface Tablet. In the figures presented below you're able to see that the first win relates to the physical tablet. We clearly see front, rear and angled views.
In total there were twelve Surface related design patents with eleven of them focused on various UI elements.

In addition to the Surface Tablet wins, Microsoft was granted four design patents for various UI elements relating to the Windows 8 Phone UI.
Microsoft's newly granted design patents could be found under the following numbers in random order: D677,674, D677,675, D677,676, D677,677, D677,678, D677,679, D677,660, D677,680, D677,693, D677,681, D677,682, D677,683, D677,688, D677,689, D677,690, D677,691, D677,692. The last design patent granted to Microsoft is for an icon as noted below for playing videos.
